My mom suffered four strokes back in 2000. She ultimately spent six years in an Alzheimer's/dementia unit and five and a half years in a nursing home. It was during this eleven and a half year period that I learned how to take a seemingly depressing situation and turn it into a journey of love, humor, and blessings. In this booklet, "Nursing Home Tips For Families," I offer advice and suggestions for a smoother journey when a family is faced with the responsibility of a loved one living in a nursing home. I address inexcusable excuses such as: "Why visit if they don't know me?"; "I can't bear to see them this way, so I'd rather not"; "Why do anything when the facility is getting paid 'the big bucks'?" The booklet talks about dying, when to let go, and more. I want to help people understand that there is a difference between sorrow and depression -- and how important faith really is.
